BeWell Mobile Named Finalist
For National Healthcare Innovation Award
Company Employs Cellphones To Improve Patient/Physician Interaction
San Francisco - June 6, 2006 - BeWell Mobile Technology, which provides patient engagement software for the healthcare industry to help patients manage their health and to provide valid data to those who care for them, has been named a finalist for the prestigious ABBY, awarded annually to organizations that demonstrate dramatic improvements the way healthcare is delivered.
The winner will be named at the eighth annual awards ceremony of the Adaptive Business Leaders Organization (ABL) on June 7 in Long Beach, CA. BeWell was nominated for its innovative use of cellphone technology in the management of chronic diseases and in the provision of patient outreach communication and medical research support.
“More than simply transmitting data between provider and patient,” said Dr. Peter Boland, business development director for BeWell, “we have created a system that takes advantage of the increasing availability and usage of cellphones as the core communications device across nearly all population demographics.”
Based in San Francisco, BeWell (www.bewellmobile.com) was founded in 2004 and is currently conducting a major trial in San Mateo County with asthmatic youth.
BeWell provides a technology platform that combines flexibility, immediacy, choice, real-time availability and cost-effectiveness to patients and those who treat them. By employing cellphones, BeWell collects relevant, real-time data from patients where they are. As a result, healthcare providers can track an individual patient’s progress and determine if personal intervention is required. At the same time, patients have access to information that helps them stay in touch with their goals and knowledgeable about their regimen.
The ABL organization consists of CEOs and presidents of technology and healthcare companies. BeWell was nominated for the ABBY by GlaxoSmithKline (NYSE: GSK). Other finalists included Kaiser Permanente, Health Hero Network, Gen-Probe, Health Equity, FACIS, Genomic Health and Stat Nurses International.
“Being nominated for the ABBY is both an honor and a significant validation of our approach which emphasizes patient self-monitoring and provides patient-generated data for medical research,” Boland said.
