Marin Art Student Exhibit on Display
At Tamalpais Bank Northgate Branch
“Putting a Human Face on Poverty”
San Rafael, CA - October 10, 2006 - The Tamalpais Bank Northgate branch will display “Windows to the Soul: Putting a Human Face on Poverty in Marin County,” an exhibit sponsored by the St. Vincent de Paul Society of Marin, Oct 23-27.
The branch, located at 630 Las Gallinas Avenue, is open from 9:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. daily. The artwork, based on photographs of diners at the St. Vincent de Paul Free Dining Room in San Rafael, was created by Marin County high school and college art students.
A public event, hosted by Tamalpais Bank, will take place on October 24 at the branch, from 5 to 7 p.m. Students will be on hand to discuss their works. Participating students attend San Marin High School, Marin Catholic, Marin School of the Arts at Novato High School, Marin Academy, San Rafael High School, Redwood High School, Tamalpais High School, Drake High School, College of Marin and Dominican University.
“We are extremely pleased to provide the facilities for this important exhibit,” said Mark Garwood, president and chief executive office of Tamalpais Bank. “We take our role in the community extremely seriously and this exhibit courageously brings attention to a vital area of concern in Marin County.”
Carina Strano, an art teacher from Marin School of the Arts, said, “the artwork has already had an effect on the students involved. I am sure that those who see the work will be equally moved. One of our goals was to demonstrate to the students that their art can be a positive force for social awareness and change.”
A jury of local arts administrators and artists will select 20 pieces from the collection to be included in a traveling exhibit during the spring of 2007.
