Tamalpais Bank Earns Green Business Status for Headquarters Location
County of Marin Awards Designation As Part of Bay Area Green Business Program
San Rafael, CA - December 5, 2006 - Tamalpais Bank, a wholly-owned subsidiary of Epic Bancorp (NASDAQ: EPIK), today announced that its corporate headquarters facility had been awarded Green Business status by the County of Marin after a rigorous six-month review process.
The facility, located at 630 Las Gallinas in San Rafael, houses the headquarters of the Bank as well as a full-service branch location.
“We are extremely proud to have attained this designation,” said Mark Garwood, CEO of the Bank. “It was the hard work of our employees who identified the Green Status as an important value for our company and then took it upon themselves to work with the County to make it possible.”
In order to be named a Green Business, the Bank was required to meet standards in the areas of:
- Energy conservation,
- Water conservation,
- Solid waste reduction and recycling and
- Pollution prevention.
“One of our employee committees first recommended seeking Green certification as part of an overall effort to save energy and water and as a means to reflect our corporate values to our customers,” said Karry Bryan, first vice president/controller who directs the employee quality improvement team (QIT) process at the Bank.”
After having demonstrated the achievement of the standards, an on-site inspection was conducted by the County to verify compliance with the standards.
“Our commitment to the values of Marin County has always been among our core principles,” said Garwood. “As sponsor of the annual Heart of Marin Awards, we have taken this responsibility seriously. In this case, our employees identified the designation as a Green Business as another important demonstration of our community involvement.”
Tamalpais Bank also recently announced that it had funded the Virginia Grove affordable housing development in Novato. Virginia Grove, when completed, will become the first privately-funded, green, single family residential building project in Marin County.
“Being a community bank is more than just a designation,” Garwood said. “We believe that it means that you have to reflect the values of your community and also take action. Having our headquarters designated as a Green business is another step of that process.”
