GoSolarMarinŠ Announces Website,
First Installation Now Operating
Local Coalition Reports Significant
Increase in Solar Interest
San Rafael, CA - January 28, 2008
GoSolarMarin©, a coalition created by Lisa Max to lower the price and increase the availability of solar power, today announced that its website (www.gosolarmarin.com) was now operating.
At the same time, Max said that calls and inquiries to SPG Solar, Inc., the Novato-based company selected by GoSolarMarin as its preferred provider, have more than tripled compared to a similar period a year ago.
Max also said that the first SPG Solar installation had been completed and was operating in the Dominican area of San Rafael.
Max noted that other solar companies had begun marketing heavily in Marin County. “Price competition is an additional benefit resulting from our efforts,” Max said. “More providers and broader awareness add up to more solar power installations at lower prices. That was our original goal and remains our primary objective.
“There are nearly 100 new contracts and SPG systems are now operating throughout the County as result of GoSolarMarin,” she said, “with many more lined up for installation over the coming months. But the significance of the December installation was that it was accomplished in less than 100 days after GoSolarMarin was created and had its only public meeting.
“We demonstrated that it is possible to take a good idea (lower pricing for solar power), run it through a rigorous process (an RFP) and make it happen, in a timely and efficient manner,” she said.
The SPG Solar pricing, available to all homeowners and business owners in Marin County, expires on February 29. “We want as many people as possible to take advantage of the discounts, which are in the range of 15-20 percent,” she said.
The negotiated price with SPG Solar is $7.94 per watt, significantly below the previous “standard” rate of $9.32 per watt. The pricing is available to anyone in Marin County who signs a contract with SPG Solar before the February 29 deadline. Installations completed within six months of contract signing will be guaranteed the pricing.
The GoSolarMarin website is an evolving information base, Max said. “We want to have a presence and provide a location for people to express their opinions and share information as well as tell their personal solar stories: what it’s like to see their electrical meter running backwards,” she said. “Over time, we will provide links to helpful sites, update people on the progress of the coalition and continue to offer a forum for discussion.
Max can be contacted at www.gosolarmarin.com or 415-461-2814. To obtain more information about the program or to schedule a free site inspection, contact SPG Solar (gosolarmarin@spgsolar.com or 415-883-SOLR).
