Tamalpais Bank Announces “Community Counts,”
Designed to Support Area Non-Profit Programs
Bank Adds to Comprehensive Community Outreach Program
That Has Allocated $1.1 Million to Date
San Rafael, CA - September 25 2007 - Tamalpais Bank today announced a comprehensive new program, Community Counts, which will provide funding, facilities and employee participation to non-profit programs and organizations.
The Community Outreach Program has already allocated more than $1.1 million to qualified 501 [c] 3 organizations on behalf of Tamalpais Bank and its customers since its inception, according to Mark Chapman, FVP/Director of Marketing.
The Community Outreach Program consists of:
- The Community Counts program which donates funds directly to organizations, as designated by customers, based on accounts held by the customer. The donations are made by the Bank from Bank funds.
- The Heart of Marin Awards, created and underwritten by the Bank since the program began 15 years ago. Awards of $1000 to $5000 are made annually. The 2007 awards will be presented at a ceremony on January 10, 2008.
- The Employees in Action program in which employees of the Bank volunteer to work with non-profit organizations of their choice. In 2007, Bank employees have donated more than 1500 hours to date.
- The Practical Money Skills for Life program, which provides a website, lesson plans, interactive games and resources for teachers and parents to help educate elementary school children about money. The Bank also offers the TamBuck$ Kids Savings Account, a savings programs with prizes and awards to encourage savings among young children and teenagers.
- The use of Community Rooms at each of the seven Marin County branches of the Bank. The rooms are available for meetings, at no charge, days or nights to any of Marin’s 1800 non-profit organizations. Currently, 77 non-profits use the Bank’s Community Rooms.
“We are extremely proud of the work that we have completed to expand this program,” said Chapman. “Last year, we made contributions to 87 Marin non-profits on behalf of our customers.”
Among the organizations benefiting from this program recently have been Guide Dogs for the Blind, Homeward Bound and the Mill Valley Film Festival.
Tamalpais Bank, in addition to being the primary underwriter of the annual Heart of Marin Awards, has also been designated as a “green” bank by Marin County, the first bank to have achieved that distinction for its headquarters and all of its branch locations. “Another program that we began several months ago benefits the Marin Agricultural Land Trust (MALT),” Chapman said. “In this program, we make donations to MALT when new accounts are opened.”
The Bank also recently began a program that makes donations to a designated non-profit when a customer secures a home mortgage or refinance loan.
“Being a local bank is more than simply having a branch or office in Marin,” said Chapman. “It also means that you work on behalf of your customers and employees to support the things that we all believe in.”
