Monday, February 08, 2010
Woodlands Market has agreed to buy Ross Grocery, a business that has been family-owned and operated for over 80 years. Ross Grocery's current owner, Don Ahrens, has decided to retire .
Woodlands Market owner Don Santa (photo at right) has indicated he'll maintain the historic integrity of the market-
"The Ross Grocery is an important community institution," said Santa, "And we are focused on providing a seamless ownership transition for our neighbors in the Ross Valley and continuing the homey style of the store."
No word on the financial terms and the deal is expected to be finalized within two months.
Santa who has owned Woodlands Market in Kentfield since the mid-80s, is in an expansion mode having recently opened Woodlands Cafe just next to the Market. He also has plans to open a second Woodlands Market sometime next year in Tiburon.
