Woodlands Market Announces Early Summer Wine Tasting Schedule.

Kentfield Store Hosts Events Fridays, Saturdays with Broad Range of International and Domestic Selections

Kentfield—May 20, 2009

Woodlands Market today announced a schedule of June wine tastings, featuring local California wines as well as vintages produced in France, Argentina and Australia.

The tastings, held in the market, run from 5 to 7 p.m. on Fridays and from 4 to 6 p.m. on Saturdays.

“Because of the interest from our customers and because of the care with which we select the wineries to feature,” said David Curtis, wine manager at Woodlands Market, “we have established a reputation that allows us to offer wines not often available to the public in an intimate tasting situation.”

The Woodlands Market wine department, though less than 5 percent of the store’s footprint, has developed a national reputation and was recently featured in a grocery industry publication as an outstanding example of how to present wine to customers.

“We see our tastings as an opportunity for customers to sample, discuss and learn about wine,” said Don Santa, who founded Woodlands Market in 1986.  “We are very conscious of allowing people to browse and explore.”

Curtis, who joined the Woodlands Market staff 14 years ago, spends much of his time tasting wines, talking with winemakers and responding to customers.  “Because of our location at a geographical center of the wine industry, we have access to a variety of tasting opportunities that include entire appellations to specific varietals and even to showcase the wines of entire countries,” he said.  “That allows us to present a greater mix of wines at our weekly tastings.”

The schedule and Curtis’ tasting comments:
  • Friday June 5th Perry Creek Vineyards. From an altitude of 2400 feet in El Dorado County, owners Michele Wilms and Dieter Juergens seek the balance and finesse of the old world with the vitality afforded by these relatively youthful and elevated vineyards. Keeper of the family vision, Monika Juergens will showcase Perry Creek Vineyards Viognier, Syrah, Zinfandel and Port.
  • Saturday June 6th Russian River Valley Overview. This quick synopsis of one of our closest and most interesting wine regions covers some of our favorite wines. Join with us as we unveil Trecini Sauvignon Blanc, Dutton – Goldfield Chardonnay and De Loach Pinot Noir.
  • Friday June 12th Foley Estates, Santa Barbara County. This appellation has come into its own in the past decade and Foley is a name we look to for wines of superior quality. Taste the nuance born of this coastal soil and climate in their Santa Rita Hills Chardonnay and Pinot Noir as well as the Rancho Santa Rosa Syrah.
  • Saturday June 13th   French Sampler. These “country” wines from France are the staples in a well rounded wine diet. Versatile and affordable, they have a quiet and steady following of folks who enjoy the simple pleasures in life. Experience these treasures of Daniel Pollier Macon-Fuisse, Sauvion Rosé de Anjou and Chateau de Ségries Lirac.
  • Friday June 19th Pelligrini Family Wines. Having dabbled in many aspects of the wine trade throughout the years the Pellirinis’ longest successes have been their vineyard holdings throughout Sonoma County. These proven vineyards are highlighted in this tasting of Olivet Lane Chardonnay and Olivet Lane Pinot Noir and Pelligrini Family Red Blend.
  • Saturday June 20th Father’s Day Cabernet Celebration. We will offer three wines whose average price is $75 in the likes of Lancaster Alexander Valley Cabernet, Beaulieu Georges De Latour Private Reserve and Orin Swift Mercury Head.
  • Friday June 26th Quintessential Wines. This distributor/importer strikes a better bargain with its ability to get good wine to market less expensively than some of our other sources. We could not be more pleased to offer the wines of Argentine producer Bianchi with our focus on the value priced Elsa line of wines. Enjoy with us Mendoza Torrontes, Chardonnay and Cabernet Sauvignon.
  • Saturday June 27th Some Wonders from the Land Down Under. We are amazed at the amount of good wine that floods our shore from Australia. These offerings of under $12 Aussies will make you have a good day, mate! Jump in on the fun as we taste Taltarni Sauvignon Blanc, Four Sisters Chardonnay and Milton Park Shiraz.

There is a $5 charge for each tasting event.  Woodlands Market offers discounts by the bottle and by the case.
